Rizvi on 2-day police custody

Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi to police custody for two days in a case filed over setting fire to a vehicle at Mirpur in the capital.
Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim passed the order when Mirpur police sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, placed him before the court seeking seven-day time to quiz Rizvi in police custody.
Rizvi’s lawyer M Sanaullah Miah prayed for his bail, however, the court rejected the prayer and instead sent Rizvi back to the custody.
The case was filed in connection with the torching of a vehicle in front of Sony Cinema in Mirpur-2 on 25 January. Rizvi was shown arrested in the case on Wednesday.
Rapid Action Battalion arrested the BNP joint secretary general in a house at Baridhara in Dhaka on 31 January.
