Cop suspended for ‘harassing’ female student

Authorities on Monday temporarily suspended a sub-inspector of Adabar Police Station in Dhaka as he faced charges of harassing a female university student.
Biplob Kumar Sarkar, deputy commissioner (Tejgaon Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said that they took the decision against Ratan Kumar after primary inquiry found him guilty, reported UNB.
In another development, Farhana Akhter, a first year student of ASA University, who faced alleged harassment filed a case against the policeman with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 on Monday morning.
Salehuddin Ahmed, judge of the tribunal, took the case into cognisance and ordered judicial investigation into it.
The court also directed the relevant authorities to submit the probe report within seven working days.
Akhter said Ratan and two other constables stopped her rickshaw in front of Japan Garden City and started accusing her of being a yaba peddler around 3:00pm on Sunday when she was on her way to a bookstore on Nurjahan Road.
The victim also alleged that the policemen then confined her to a nearby electronics shop, searched her purse and harassed her sexually.
