Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Takehiko Nakao will visit Bangladesh on February 27-28.

During the visit, President Nakao will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Finance Minister AMA Muhith, and other senior officials, reports the UNB.

He will also visit selected ADB-assisted projects in Bangladesh in the power, education, urban infrastructure and rail transport sectors.

Bangladesh joined ADB in 1973, and in 1982 it became the first ADB member to host a field office.

To date, more than $20 billion in ADB loans, grants, and technical assistance has been approved for the country. Approved non-sovereign loans, equity investments, and guarantees have totalled $985.28 million.

ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, it is owned by 67 members—48 from the region.
