Govt to enact laws to limit car usages: Quader
Dhaka: Roads Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told parliament that the government is contemplating enactment of two laws to limit the plying of vehicles with a view to easing the prevailing traffic tailback in Dhaka.
‘With the proposal of fixing a limit upon use of cars by each family, two separate laws will be enacted instead of the existing ‘Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1983,’ he said responding to a query of independent lawmaker Hazi Mohammad Salim in the House with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Replying to supplementary question of Salim, the minister said the government did not take any decision yet that each family would be eligible to use a private car.
‘But instead of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance -1983, the draft for two separate laws — Bangladesh Roads Transport Authority Law and Road Transport Law are in progress,’ he added.
Quader said the plying of 20-year-old bus-minibuses and 25-year-old goods-carrying vehicles in two cities of Dhaka is strictly prohibited to ease traffic congestion and ensure safety of road.
