Dhaka: A patient died as he reportedly jumped off the 5^th floor of a Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) building on Tuesday.

The deceased is Md Rubel Gazi, 22, son of Rabiullah Gazi of Sadipur Konabari village in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district.

Sources at the DMCH said Rubel was admitted to the medicine department of the hospital on Sunday last.

Victim’s mother Atojan said Rubel had been suffering from mental problem as saliva continued to come out through his mouth after he suffered a stroke.

He was taken to the DMCH on Sunday for treatment, she said.

Sub-inspector Bachchu Mia of DMCH Police Camp said Rubel suddenly jumped from the balcony on the 5^th floor of the DMCH new building in the afternoon.

Ansar members posted at the hospital rescued him and took him to the emergency department where the attending doctor declared him dead around 3:40 pm, he said.

The body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
