BNP senior leaders have commenced a meeting to discuss the country’s latest political situation and work out the party’s next course of action.

The meeting began around 4:35pm (Saturday) at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office, reports the UNB.

The party’s standing committee members, vice chairmen, chairperson’s advisers, joint secretaries general and organising secretaries have joined the meeting.

This is the second such meeting of the party senior leaders since Khaleda Zia was sent to jail in a corruption case on February 8.

A BNP standing committee member, wishing anonymity, said they will elaborately discuss the current political situation and work out the party’s next course of action.

At the meeting, he said, they will also discuss various issues relating to their chairperson’s jailing, legal process to secure bail for her, the upcoming election, the party’s plan for holding divisional rallies, and next course of action.

The BNP leader said the standing committee members will ask the other senior leaders to work for strengthening the party and keeping its leaders and activists united and optimistic heading into the next general election.

The BNP leaders will also be given necessary directions not to fall into any ‘trap’ of the government and to concentrate on consolidating the unity of the party rank and file.

BNP acting chairman is likely to address the meeting through videoconferencing from London.
