‘Robber’ killed in B’baria ‘gunfight’

Brahmanbaria: A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Kaitola village in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Jabed Miah, 45, son of Edon Miah of Kaitola village and an accused in nine cases including of robbery and murder.

Md Aslam Shikder, officer-in-charge of Nabinagar Police Station, said a team of police of Shibpur Police outpost arrested Jabed at 8:00pm on Sunday.

After gleaning information from him, police along with Jabed conducted a drive in Dakkhin Kaitola Haor bridge to recover arms.

Sensing the presence of police, his associates opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, leaving Jabed bullet injured, said the OC.

Being rescued, the injured was taken to Nabinagar upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead.

Five police members were injured in the incident.

Police also recovered a pipe gun, ten cartridges and three machetes.
