Plot on to turn BD a failed state, says BNP

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday alleged that a plot is on to turn the country into a failed and militant one.

‘You’ve surely noticed that a conspiracy is going on to make the country a dysfunctional and failed one. As part of the plot, the country’s most popular writer Dr Zafar Iqbal was stabbed on broad daylight in Sylhet,’ he said, reports the UNB.

Speaking at a human chain programme, the BNP leader further said, ‘BNP has been made accused of the incident without any investigation. But those who are arrested all belong to Awami League. So, a question has arisen whether the ruling party is plotting to turn the country into a militant and failed one to secure its one-party rule.’

As part of its countrywide programme, BNP arranged the human chain in front of the National Press Club demanding party chief Khaleda Zia’s release.

Fakhrul alleged that the country’s all sectors, including the education, economy and health, brace for ruination due to misrule, mismanagement and corruption by the government.

Describing the current government as ‘unelected’ and ‘undemocratic’ one, he said no credible election can be held under it.

The BNP leader said a congenial atmosphere and a level-playing field must be created to hold the next election in fair and credible manner.  ‘We would like to clearly say our leader (Khaleda) must be released from jail while parliament will have to be dissolved for holding the polls.’

He said their party is on a movement for not making any political gain, but for the restoration of democracy and people’s rights. ‘This movement is also for freeing the country from an evil force and fascist dictator.’
