Orchid at Singapore botanical garden to be named after Sheikh Hasina

Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaves here for Singapore on Sunday on a four-day official visit at the invitation of her Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong.

During her visit, a bilateral meeting will be held between the two Prime Ministers, said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali while briefing reporters at his ministry on Wednesday.

Sheikh Hasina will pay a courtesy on first female Muslim President of Singapore Halimah Yacob, he said.

During the visit, a progamme will be held to name an orchid after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Singapore botanical garden, said Mahmood Ali, reports the UNB.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid and senior government officials will accompany the Prime Minister.

A high-level business delegation will also accompany her.

The Prime Minister will address Bangladesh-Singapore Business Forum-2018 and Bangladesh-Singapore Business roundtable as the chief guest there.

On March 12, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will host lunch in honour of Sheikh Hasina.

There is possibility to sign six agreements and Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) during her visit to Singapore.

The six deals are MoU on Collaboration of Investment Activities into Bangladesh (between International Enterprise Singapore and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority), MoU on Public Private Partnership (between International Enterprise Singapore and the Public Private Partnership Authority, Prime Minister’s Office of Bangladesh), Confidential Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) to expand the Air Service Agreement, MoU on Digital leadership, Innovation, and Digital Government Transformation (between the National University of Singapore Institute of System Science and ICT Division of Bangladesh), MoU between FBCCI and Singapore Manufacturing Federation to strengthen business relations and promote economic cooperation, and MoU between MCCI and Singapore Manufacturing Federation to strengthen business relations and promote economic cooperation.

The Foreign Minister said the visit will help enhance cooperation between the two countries over public-private partnership, civil aviation, trade, investment, energy and other sectors.

About the political implication of the tour, he said it will facilitate earning support of Singapore in favour of Bangladesh’s initiative to be ‘Sectoral Dialogue Partner’ of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).

During the tour, Bangladesh will request the incumbent chair of Asean, Singapore to extend its support to Bangladesh on Rohingya issue, Mahmood Ali said.

He said Singapore is one of the friendly countries in the South East Asia and the diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and Singapore was established in February, 1972 after the 1971 Liberation War.

The visit will play an important role in deepening the bilateral ties further and strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries, said the Foreign Minister.
