Munshiganj: Two days after a sand-laden vessel capsized in the Meghna River near Char Abdullah, rescuers on Wednesday recovered three bodies.

The body of Nader, 20, a crew member of the vessel, was retrieved by divers of the Fire Service and Civil Defence in the evening from the vessel which was located about 100 feet beneath the water surface near the capsize spot.

Earlier, the divers recovered the body of vessel owner Motiur Rahman, 65, which was floating near the spot, and that of his son Md Masum, 40, from inside the sunken vessel.

Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Yunus Ali said members of the Coast Guard, Fire Service and Civil Defence and police were conducting the rescue operation.

Mamunur Rashid Mamun, 32, a teacher of Polytechnic and Textile College in Dhaka and another son of the vessel owner still remain missing, he added.

Meanwhile, president of Munshiganj Sadar upazila unit of Awami League Afsar Uddin Bhuiyan said the vessel might have sunk due to its faulty reconstruction.

The vessel was of smaller size originally and its owner Motiur reconstructed the vessel for an enlargement.

On Monday, as the enlarged vessel was taking its maiden load of sands along the sand quarry at Char Abdullah, a fracture developed at its keel and it sunk in no time.

The owner and his two sons along with three crew members were on board of the vessel at that time.

Two of the crew were rescued by other vessels.
