Govt plotting to foil BNP council: Noman
Dhaka: BNP’s senior leader Abdullah Al Noman on Thursday accused the government of conspiring to obstruct their party’s sixth national council.
‘The government is plotting to impede our sixth national council. The sedition case filed against our chairperson is aimed at keeping her away from the council activities,’ he said.
Noman however said their party is determined to hold their council at the right time.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of party founder Ziaur Rahman with leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, marking the release of its ex-leader Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokan from prison, reports UNB.
Khokan, who reportedly remained traceless for three months, was released from jail on bail on Sunday.
Noman, a BNP vice chairman, said their party sought permission from the authorities for three venues in the city two weeks ago.
‘We’re yet to get permission for using any of those venues. It’s also a government conspiracy.’
He said they would arrange their council at any of these three venues under any circumstance.
‘No conspiracy and evil efforts can foil our planned council.’
Mentioning that BNP has political and democratic rights to hold its council, Noman warned that people would come up with a befitting reply to those who are trying to foil it.
He also termed conspiratorial the sedition case recently filed against Khaleda Zia over her remarks on the number of 1971 Liberation War martyrs and warned that the government cannot suppress her with such attempts.
The BNP leader also alleged that the government has annihilated democracy and created a horrible situation in the country, resorting to killing, enforced disappearances and repressive measures.
