4 cops closed over tea vendor’s death
Dhaka: Four policemen of Shah Ali Police Station were closed on Thursday following the death of a tea seller who caught fire from his kerosene stove as it was hit by a policeman in the city’ s Mirpur area on Wednesday.
Tea seller Babul Mattabbar, 45, succumbed to his burn injuries at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital this afternoon after struggling for life for hours with almost 95 percent burn injuries in his body.
The four policemen are sub-inspector (SI) Mominur Rahman, SI Nizamuddin Mollah, ASI Devendra Nath and constable Jasimuddin.
Contacted, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Md Maruf Hossain Sarder said the four policemen were closed in connection with Wednesday night’s incident at Godaraghat in Mirpur-1.
Mattabbar suffered burn injuries as a policeman allegedly hit his kerosene stove as he refused to pay toll to him. Under the influence of the hit, the stove exploded instantly and his body caught fire.
