Obaidul Quader rules out possibility of PM’s resignation before polls

Narayanganj: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday ruled out the possibility of resignation by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before the next general election.
‘The question of the Prime Minister’s resignation before the election doesn’t arise… there’s no instance of Prime Minister’s resignation before general election in any democratic country of the world,’ said Obaidul, also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League, reports the UNB.
The minister said this while talking to reporters after the inauguration of reconstruction work on Dhaka Bypass road at Nayapur in Sonargaon.
He made the remarks apparently in the wake of BNP’s repeated demand for the PM’s resignation paving the path for forming an election-time supportive government.
Obaidul went on saying, ‘The election will be held in due time and the government will provide all kinds of assistance to the Election Commission to hold it. The election won’t wait for anyone.’
Turning to BNP’s movement, he said the party is now complaining to foreigners after having failed to launch any movement.
About its joining of the election, Obaidul said, ‘It’s BNP’s own decision whether it’ll participate in the national election or not.’
