Sylhet: Badiul Alam Majumder, secretary of civil society platform Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) on Saturday said that the country would face dire consequences if the upcoming parliamentary election is held controversially.

He was speaking as the chief guest at its divisional meeting at a city hotel, reports the UNB.

Badiul Alam said the Election Commission (EC) will have to play an important role to hold the polls neutrally and inclusively.

The EC will consult with all political parties to ensure the participation of all the parties in the upcoming 11th parliamentary election, he opined.

He urged everyone to face all evil forces for protecting country and its democracy.

He believed that it will be possible for the EC to hold an acceptable election to all if the civil society is vocal.

He called upon the mass people to stop militancy and fundamentalism to ensure good governance in the country.

Shujan Sylhet committee president Faruk Mahmud Chowdhury presided over the programme while its central coordinator Dilip Kumar Sarkar conducted it.

Shujan Sunamganj district advocate Hossain Towfiq Chowdhury, Moulvibazar district president Sadique Ahmad, Sylhet vice president advocate Irfanuzzaman Chowdhury, Brahmanbaria general secretary AKM Shibli, Sunamganj general secretary Ali Haider, Sylhet general secretary advocate Shahina Akhter, Sylhet Sadar president Mishbaul Bari Liton spoke on the occasion, among others.
