Dhaka: Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain on Tuesday urged all to get united to protect democracy in the country.

‘The people of the country achieved the desired victory against the Pakistani occupational forces in 1971...now we must protect the dignity of the victory,’ he said.

The Gono Forum President came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion titled ‘Want Democracy, Rule of Law and Fair Election’ at the Jatiya Press Club here in the afternoon.

‘The people of the country have become frustrated at the current situation. Some 30 lakh martyrs sacrificed their lives for the country, but we cannot let it go under any autocratic ruler again,’ he said.

‘I’m not speaking against any person, community or party but urge all to get united to protect democracy in the country,’ Dr Kamal said adding, ‘If we want to fulfill the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, we must get united.

Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) President Kader Siddique, Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Forum General Secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu, Executive President Subrata Chowdhury, among others, spoke at the occasion.
