CJ stresses philosophical education for democracy
Dhaka: Chief Justice SK Sinha on Friday underlined the need for philosophical education to ensure the flourishing of democracy.
‘Alongside the implementation of laws, philosophical education is needed to ensure the flourishing of democracy,’ he said.
The Chief Justice came up with the observation while addressing the 8th reunion of the Philosophy Department Alumni Association of Dhaka University (DU) at Teachers-Students Centre (TSC) on the campus.
He noted that philosophical education is needed to maintain the ethical values which ensure social welfare and discipline.
Terming law and philosophy as complementary, Sinha also observed that one cannot be a perfect Justice without philosophical thinking.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of DU Prof Shahid Akhtar Hossain and freedom fighter Md Lutfar Rahman were also present at the programme.
