Dhaka: A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with DB police at Diabari in city’s Dakkhinkhan area early Friday.

The deceased is Zahirul Islam.

Tapan Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of DB Police, said local people caught Zahirul while committing robbery at a house in Dakkhinkhan area on Thursday. Later, they handed over Zahirul to police after a good thrashing.

On Thursday night, a team of police with the arrestee went to Diabari to arrest his gang members.

At one stage, the associates of Zahirul opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate around 4:00am that triggered a gunfight.

Zahirul caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries, he said.

He was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
