NICAR set to talk Monday proposal to change English spellings of 5 dists
Dhaka: A proposal will be placed before a meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization-Reform (Nicar) on Monday to change the English spellings of five districts in accordance with their Bangla pronunciation, reports the UNB.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam on Sunday night said that they will move the proposal to change the spellings of Barisal, Chittagong, Comilla, Bogra and Jessore.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will chair the meeting to be held at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The Cabinet Division has recommended updating the spelling of Chittagong to ‘Chattagram’ while that of Barisal to ‘Barishal’, Comilla to ‘Kumilla’, Jessore to ‘Jashore’ and Bogra to ‘Bagura’, according to sources at the division.
