India’s first trial container train arrives today

The first container train from Kolkata will reach Bangabandhu Bridge west station on a trial run on Wednesday.
The train was flagged off from Majerhat station, Kolkata, on Tuesday by the general manager of Eastern Railways of India and the CMD of CONCOR, said a press release of Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka.
The train will enter Bangladesh through Darsana border yesterday and will terminate at Bangabandhu Bridge west station today. Senior officials of the Bangladesh Railway will receive the train.
Through this trial run, India and Bangladesh becomes able to send and receive containerized goods through railways, according to the release.
This is pursuant to the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR) and Container Company of Bangladesh Limited (CCBL) for starting the container services between the two countries during the visit of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to India in April 2017.
Transportation of goods through container trains is likely to be a faster and cheaper option for both India and Bangladesh.
