Dhaka: Police held two demonstrators who on Saturday staged a sit-in at Dhaka’s Shahbagh to press home their demands, including cancellation of the result of 34th BCS examinations.

The detained demonstrators, Nur Islam Nur and Mithun Dewan Mitun, along with several others, staged the sit-in under the banner of 34th BCS Pass Cadre Deprived Forum, with Nur Islam being the coordinator of this forum.

According to a UNB report, the demonstrators staged the sit-in at Shahbagh intersection at about around 10:00am and put barricade on the intersection later, halting vehicular movement in the area.

The forum wanted the authorities to cancel the result of 34th BCS examination, publish a fresh result after re-evaluation on the basis of merit, and appoint candidates who passed the 34th BCS exam to the 672 vacant posts.

At one stage, police came to the scene and charged baton to disperse them detaining the two.

Mithun was sent to BSMMU as he was slightly injured during the police action.
