The 29th council of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, will be held in the capital on May 11 and 12.

Saifur Rahman Sohag, the president of BCL central committee, came up with the announcement at a press conference at its Bangabandhu Avenue central office in Dhaka on Thursday, reports the BSS.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also president of Awami League, is expected to be present at the inaugural session of the two-day council, said a BCL press release.

Bangladesh Chhatra League also will hold its councils for the three major units — Dhaka Metropolitan South, Dhaka Metropolitan North and Dhaka University Unit — on April 24 (Tuesday), April 26 (Thursday), and April 29 (Sunday) respectively.

Saifur Rahman Sohag from Madaripur district and SM Jakir Hossain from Moulvibazar, were elected president and general secretary of the student body for a two- year tenure in the 28th national council of BCL held on 25-26 July, 2015.

Bangladesh Chhatra League, the country’s oldest student organisation, began its journey on January 4, 1948, with the fundamentals of education, peace and progress.
