Khaleda Zia needs proper ‘medical tests’: Pro-BNP physicians

Dhaka: Pro-BNP doctors on Monday alleged that their leader Khaleda Zia’s physical problems cannot be diagnosed with some ‘simple  medical tests’ conducted as per the prescription of the medical board formed by the government.

They also demanded the government immediately release her from jail so that she can properly undergo all the necessary medical tests and receive proper treatment on her own.

The pro-BNP physicians, under the banner of ‘Bishishtha Chikiṯshak Samāja’, made the demand at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity DRU.

Speaking at the Programme, M Saiful Islam, a professor of Bangladesh Medical University, said, ‘The medical team chosen by the government advised doing some common x-ray and blood tests for initial investigation. It’s not possible to identify her diseases, subtle problems and real health condition through those tests.’

He said Khaleda needs intensive care and observation apart from modern medical tests like CT scan and MRI for her proper treatment.’So, we demand the government ensure her better treatment through her unconditional release.’

Saiful said the medical board did not take any step for her some crucial tests of kidney, lungs, liver and heart.

He said many people considered that the administrative action for conducting Khaleda’s medical tests is mere eyewash to mislead people.

Saiful alleged that though the BNP chairperson’s personal physicians were present during her medical tests, they only exchanged mere greetings as they were not allowed to examine her health.

As per the jail code, he said a convicted person has the right to receive treatment by his/her desired doctors in jail. ‘But it has turned into a farce in the case of Khaleda Zia.’

Senior pro-BNP doctors Prof Abdul Mannan Miah, Prof AKM Azizul Haue, AZM Zahid Hossain, Prof Sirajuddin Ahmed, Prof Golam Moinuddin, Prof Sahabuddin and Prof Abdul Quddus were, among others, present.

Earlier on Saturday, Khaleda was taken to Radiology and Imaging Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for various tests on Saturday where several x-rays of her bones were taken as the medical board’s suggestion.

On April 1, the government formed the medical team with four professors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital to examine her health condition and ensure her treatment in the jail.

Later, the four doctors suggested conducting some medical examinations, including x-ray on her different bones and joints and blood test.

On completion of her tests at BSMMU’s Radiology and Imaging department, she was taken back to the jail.
