5 held over gang rape in moving bus in Savar

Savar: Police early Monday arrested five people, including a bus driver and his assistant, in connection with the ‘gang rape’ of a female garment worker in a moving bus at Kachmach in Dhamrai on Dhaka-Aricha Highway.

The arrestees are Md Sohel Rana, of Gawail village in Dhamrai, Makbul Hossain, of Kelia village of the same upazila, Babu Mollik, of Kotpara village in Chuadanga upazila, Abdul Aziz, of Deokhola village in Phulbari of Mymensingh, Balram, son of Mohalal of Dimran village in Nilphamari.

Officer-in-charge of Dhamrai Police Station Md Rizaul Haque said on Sunday night the victim got into a bus from Islampur area and all its passengers got down when it reached Kalampur bus stand area.

Then five staff of the bus, including its driver and his assistant, locked the gate and violated the girl one after another, he said.

After hearing scream of the victim, locals informed police.Later, police chased the bus and rescued her from Kochmoch area, he added.

Police also arrested five people from the spot.
