Dhaka: Dhaka University Teachers’ Association formed a human chain at the foot of Aparajeya Bangla of Dhaka University on Tuesday protesting the attack on Dhaka University vice-chancellor’s residence.

The association held the human chain from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Aparajeya Bangla premises demanding immediate arrest and punishment of the attackers.

Dramatist Ramendu Majumdar, who also joined the human chain, said the students’ demand to reform the quota system is logical but the attack on the VC’s house is totally unexpected.

The attack was pre-planned, he said.

The leaders of the DUTA also claimed that university students are not behind the attack and the attack was carried out in a planned way.

Prof Sadeka Halim of Dhaka University’s Sociology Department, also dean of the Social Sciences Faculty, urged the concerned authorities to bring the attackers to book after identifying them.

The teachers of Dhaka University also provide moral support to the protesters.

The association also declared to wear black badges from 11:00am to 11:59am on April 12 suspending all their academic activities including classes.

Besides, the DUTA leaders invited journalists to come to the VC’s residence on Wednesday around 11am as they can show the video footage of the attack.

The teachers also assured the agitating students that they will request the prime minister for a logical reform of quota system.

Meanwhile, general students continued their silent protest over the law enforcers’ attack on the agitating students, carrying placards, in front of the DUTA human chain.

Different slogans including ‘Why attacks in the campus’, ‘Why students were injured?’, ‘Teachers (our guardian), we want answer’, were written in the placards.

Amid demonstrations in Shahbagh and adjacent areas early Monday seeking reform of the quota system, some unknown attackers entered the VC’s residence breaking its main gate and ransacked several rooms and furniture.

The attackers also set fire on two vehicles parked inside the VC’s residence.
