PM’s directive soon over quota: Anisul

Law Minister Anisul Huq on Wednesday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will soon give a directive over the reform of quota system in government service as she assured that she would look into the matter.

‘I want to tell the protesters with affection that as the Prime Minister said she would look into the matter she will certainly do that.  She’ll give a directive soon in this regard. And I’ll take care of its legal aspects when it would come to me,’ he said while addressing a ceremony of car distribution among district judges at the secretariat, reports the UNB.

‘Firstly, the Prime Minister and Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader have taken the responsibility to negotiate with the protesters. They’ve sought time until May 7. The decision will be taken after scrutinising the system’, he said.

Meanwhile, replying to a query of journalists about BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia bail denial in Cumilla arson case, Anisul said, ‘When the trial of a case runs in a court, it is a sub-judice matter, so I don’t want to talk about it. What I can say is the court is entirely independent. It delivers decision independently.’

‘The government has nothing to do with the trial court order as the High Court, district judges or the Appellate Division deliver their orders after hearing both sides,’ he said.

On April 10, a Comilla court rejected the bail petition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case filed over the 2015 arson attack on a bus in Chouddagram upazila that left eight people dead.
