Harijan Tulshi Killing: 2 including ex-BCL men remanded in custody

Pabna: Three persons, including former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Rafiqul Islam Rumon, were remanded in judicial custody in connection with the killing of Harijan community young person Tulshi Chandra Das on Sunday.
Former district BCL general secretary Rafiqul Islam Rumon, and BCL activists Shariful Islam Ratan and Nazrul Islam Sohel on Thursday night surrendered to the court of Pabna Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rezaul Karim and sought bail. The court, however, dumped the prayer and sent them to judicial custody. The court fixed February 14 for the next hearing.
Tulshi Das was beaten to death on 2 August in 2015. Following his death, his father Shawon Chandra Das filed a case with the Pabna police. He named 11 persons, including Rumon; his father KM Hasan Heera, a former municipal councillor; uncle Abdul Hannan, district Awami League’s former treasurer; BCL activists Nazrul Islam Sohel, Shariful Islam Ratan and Atikuzzaman as suspects. Police on 7 November 2015 submitted a report to the court charging presses against eight persons, but excluded KM Hasan Heera, Abdul Hannan and Atikuzzaman.
The killing sparked widespread protests in the district. Bangladesh Harijan Unity Council
Central committee submitted a charter of demands to the home minister. Protesters also formed human chains, held press conferences and brought out processions.
At one stage police had arrested KM Hasan, but he secured bail after his name was dropped from the charge sheet.
Pabna public prosecutor Akhteruzzaman Mukta said the trial is under way. Everybody should have patience to get the justice.
The investigative police officer Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin said, the trial is still going on. Police have nothing to do, but to give deposition.
