Dhaka: BNP on Wednesday alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is now devising a new roadmap to take political revenge on its acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

‘She (Hasina) has now made Tarique Rahman as her target. She’s trying to make another roadmap to take revenge on him and thus satisfy her anger,’ said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, reports the UNB.

Reacting to the Prime Minister’s comment on bringing back Tarique from London, the BNP leader came up with the remarks at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.

At a programme in London on Tuesday, Sheikh Hasina criticised the UK for giving shelter Tarique since he is convicted by Bangladeshi courts.

‘We’re in talks with British government about it. And definitely we’ll take him back one day and he’ll have to face the court,’ she told the programme.

Rizvi said the government’s efforts to bring Tarique back will go in vain as the UK, a democratic and humanitarian country, is well aware of the current Bangladesh government’s ‘repressively rule, brutality and cruelty’.

He said their acting chairman was convicted with ‘Awami League trial procedure’ in absence of the rule of law. ‘Even, now judges can’t stay in the country after delivering fair judgement.’

The BNP leader said Sheikh Hasina ‘refused to reply to a question by British TV ‘Channel-4’ about Bangladesh’s human rights record and enforced disappearances. ‘But most media here didn’t focus on it as they’re controlled by the government.’
