Dhaka:  BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday urged all the political parties to get united over the issue of holding the next general election under a non-party neutral government.

‘It has now become a big question to people as to why the political parties can’t get united when the government is moving ahead with a blueprint to hold another 2014 like election,’ he said, reports the UNB.

‘I call upon all political parties to come to an understanding over the issue of restoration of democracy and holding the next election under a non-party neutral government, ‘he said.

Fakhrul was speaking at a discussion arranged by Association of Engineers’ Bangladesh at the Jatiya Press Club demanding BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.

The government has not only destroyed the democratic institutions but also financial ones, he said.

Under the Circumstances, he called upon BNP leaders and activists to go to people for mobilising public opinion against the misdeeds and misrules of the government.

‘We must create a mass upsurge to free the country from the grasp of the current government and establish a pro-people administration in a democratic and peaceful manner, ‘said the BNP leader.

He voiced his concern over the health condition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail as she is not getting treatment despite her ailment.

Fakhrul alleged that the government has sent Khaleda to jail by convicting her in a false and fabricated case as part of his evil design.

‘We must wage a movement to free her from jail,’ he said.
