Dhaka: BNP on Friday alleged that Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader’s remark on their Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s illness has manifested the government’s deep-rooted plot against her life.

‘Obaidul Quader said the life and death are in the hands of Allah…his comment carries a horrible indication,’ said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, reports the UNB.

Speaking at a press conference, he said they have got worried further about the life of their ailing chairperson in jail following the AL general secretary’s comment. ‘It’s proved that they (govt) are involved in a deep-rooted conspiracy against the BNP Chairperson’s life.’

The BNP leader said though have repeatedly been voicing deep concern over Khaleda’s health condition, the government and the jail authorities are not paying heed to it.

He also criticised the jail authorities for not allowing three BNP senior leaders, including its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, to meet Khaleda on Thursday despite having the permission from the Home Ministry.

Rizvi said their chairperson’s pains in knees and legs have intensified further while she is affected with new health complications as she has been kept in a damp and old building. ‘She’s now at serious health risk.’

He urged the government to take steps immediately so that Khaleda can receive treatment at the United Hospital in the city under the supervision of her personal physicians. Or else, the BNP leader warned that the government will not be able to escape public wraths. ‘We won’t tolerate the jail authorities’ delay over the treatment of our leader.’
