3 judges appointed violating seniority: SCBA
Dhaka: Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association has complained that the three newly appointed judges in the Appellate Division have been recruited in violation of the seniority of 30 High Court judges.
The bar association president Khandker Mahbub Hossain came up with the remark while addressing a press briefing at the Supreme Court auditorium in Dhaka on Monday.
The law ministry issued a notification on Sunday confirming the appointments of three judges—Mirza Hussain Haider, Nizamul Huq Nasim and Mohammad Bazlur Rahman— after getting approval from President Abdul Hamid.
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha administrated the oath of the three at the Judge’s Lounge of Appellate Division on Monday morning.
With the three newly appointed judges, the number of Appellate Division judges rises to nine.
Khandker Mahbub Hossain said, ‘The government has appointed three judges in the Appellate Division among five posts which had been vacant for a long time. Lawyers and people are questioning the recruitment as two judges were appointed in violation of the seniority of 30 High Court judges.’
Khandaker Mahbub, on behalf of the association, urged the government to prepare recruitment policy for the apex court immediately.
The senior lawyer said, ‘The lawyers will take a firm stance against the recruitment of judges from party perspective before preparing recruitment policy.’
