Anwar Hossain made Shah Ali OC
Dhaka: Inspector Anwar Hossain has been made officer-in-charge (OC) of Shah Ali Police Station in the city.
Anwar, who was working as an Inspector of Detective Branch (South Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), took charge of the police station on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, Shahin Mollah was withdrawn as the OC of the police station on Friday following the death of Mirpur tea-seller Babul Mattabbar.
The 45-year-old Mattabbar succumbed to his burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on February 4 after struggling for life for hours with almost 95 percent burn injuries in his body.
Earlier, Babul caught fire from his kerosene stove as it was hit by police in the city’s Gudaraghat area of Mirpur on February 3.
The single-member inquiry panel, formed by the DMP on February 4 to investigate the incident, found the then officer-in-charge of Shah Ali Police Station Shahin Mollah guilty of negligence of duty in connection with the incident.
The committee headed by Deputy Commissioner (Discipline) of DMP also found four suspended policemen -- sub-inspectors Mominur Rahman and Niazuddin Mollah, assistant sub-inspector Devendra Nath and constable Jasimuddin -- guilty.
Victim’s eldest daughter Rokhsana filed a case with Shah Ali Police Station against seven people, including ‘drug peddler’ Parul and police informant Delwar, in connection with the death.
The case is now being investigated by the Detective Branch of police as it was transferred to it from Shah Ali Thana on Monday.
Inspector Rezaul Islam of the DB (West Division) has been made investigation officer (IO) of the case.
