Gazipur: Criticising the arrest of 45 Gazipur Jamaat-e-Islami men, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan on Friday alleged that the chief of the district police is behaving like an Awami League man.

‘We demand immediate release of the arrestees and urge the authorities not to behave like this in future which can influence the Gazipur City Corporation election,’ the senior BNP leader said while campaigning for the party candidate in Outpara Dighirchala area.

Earlier in the morning, detectives arrested 45 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, including city unit ameer Principal SM Sanaullah, reportedly along with explosives from a resort at Pubail in the city.

‘Earlier, we have lodged complaint to the Election Commission against the district police chief, but they didn’t pay any heed to it. Today it was proved that our allegations are authentic,’ Nazrul said.

BNP central leaders Nitai Roy Chowdhury and Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, district BNP president Fazlul Haq Milon and general secretary Kazi Sayedul Alam Babul were also present there.
