Dhaka: Students of Uttara University on Saturday formed a human chain in front of National Press Club seeking exemplary punishment of the three arrested bus staff for alleged sexual harassment of a female student in a running bus on April 21.

The students put forward nine point demands at the programme around 11 am in protest of the harassment, said a press release, reports the UNB.

The speakers at the programme asked the authorities to move the case to the speedy trial tribunal for a quick delivery of justice.

The students also urged the lawyers not to stand by the culprits and not to help them exploit any legal loopholes, the release also reads.

Earlier on April 21, the private university student was allegedly sexually harassed when she boarded a ‘Great Turag’ bus on Badda Link road on her way to campus in Uttara.

When all the other passengers got off the bus at Natun Bazar bus stoppage, the helper, contractor and driver of the bust started to sexually assault the victim.

On April 22, the victim’s husband filed a case with Gulshan Police Station accusing the trio — driver Roman, 27, conductor Monir, 27, and helper Nayan, 29.

Protesting the incident, several hundred students of Uttara University staged demonstration the following day in Uttara, demanding immediate arrest of the bus staffers of ‘Turag Paribahan’.

Later, police arrested the three accused.
