Election in case of no compromise, PM about BCL committee
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said there will be voting in case of failure to reach a compromise to pick leaders for ruling party’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in its upcoming conference.
‘There’ll be a meeting with the participation of all to reach a compromise. If there’s no compromise, it’ll go to vote (to elect leaders of BCL committee),’ she said replying to a question at a press conference, reports the UNB.
The press conference was arranged at her official residence Ganobhaban over her recent visits to Saudi Arab, the UK and Australia.
The 29th conference of Chhatra League will be held on May 11 and 12 next.
In reply to a question, Sheikh Hasina said the BCL conference will be held systematically and efforts are usually made in the process to reach a compromise.
The distribution of (nomination) forms among possible candidates has already started, Hasina said. ‘If it fails to reach a compromise, it’ll go for voting to pick the leaders for BCL.’
‘We want appropriate leadership. We want true students who don’t cross the age limit, and the meritorious ones will join the leadership (of BCL),’ she said adding that if there is any mismatch in the vote, it will not be acceptable for sure.
Hasina said if there is a compromise, the BCL committee will be announced through sending a press release to the media.
