Dhaka: Two suspected criminals were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ with the members of Detective Branch (DB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Demra and Narayanganj early Wednesday.

A suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with DB police at Trimohoni on Demra Staff Quarter Road early Wednesday.

The identity of the deceased aged around 35 years could not be known immediately.

Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area around 3:00am, said Bacchu Mia, sub-inspector of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp, reports the UNB.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on the law enforcers prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

The unknown ‘miscreant’ caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injury.

Later, he was taken to DMCH where the doctors declared him dead around 4:30am, police said.

In another incident in Narayanganj, an alleged mugger was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in 300-feet area of Rupganj upazila early Wednesday.

Based on secret information, a team of RAB-1 conducted a drive in the area, said Major Manjur, commanding officer of RAB-1.

Sensing the presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire to RAB, forcing them to fire back which triggered a gunfight.

Later, the RAB members rescued an unidentified ‘criminal’ with bullet wounds and took him to Rupganj Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead around 2:15am.

Two Rab members — constable Sazirul and constable Anis — were injured in the incident, said the Rab official.

A foreign made pistol was recovered from the spot, he added.
