Kishoreganj: President Abdul Hamid on Friday sought people’s blessings so that he can perform his duty properly for the welfare of the country and its people.

‘I want to work for the welfare and development of the whole country, especially the haor regions which face frequent flashfloods,’ he said while addressing a gathering after Jum’a prayers at his ancestral village of Kamalpur in Mithamain upazila, reports the UNB.

The President arrived here by a helicopter which landed at Mithamain Helipad around 12 noon.

Political leaders, local MPs and senior officials of the district administration received him.

Abdul Hamid visited his village home for the first time after he was sworn in for the second consecutive term on April 24.

The President expressed shock at the deaths in lightning strikes in haor and other regions of the country and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.

Earlier, he offered his Jum’a prayers at the mosque adjacent to his house and exchanged views with the locals.

He also offered fateha and doa at the graves of his father Md Tayeb Uddin and mother Tomiza Khatun and some other relatives at Kamalpur village after the prayers.

Hamid also visited some development projects, including the newly renovated building of Mithamain union parishad.

He spent some time there and talked to the local political and business leaders.

Local political leaders, including local MP Rezwan Ahmed Taufiq, High Court judge Justice Amir Hossain, senior civil and military officials and secretaries concerned to Bangabhaban were present.

Hamid is the first politician in Bangladesh to get re-elected as President on completion of the first term.
