2 killed in M’singh ‘gunfights’

Mymensingh: A murder accused and a suspected mugger were killed in separate incidents of gunfight with police in the district early Saturday.

The deceased murder accused is Alamgir while the 'mugger' is Sirajul Islam, 23.

Ashiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of police of the district, said a team of police in a drive arrested Alamgir, an accused in a case filed in connection with the murder of Abul Kashem, from Gopalganj on Friday.

A gang of criminal numbering 8-10 including another murder accused Siddiq, hurled brick chips to police, when Kashem was taken to Poranganj road from Charanchal Joybangla Bazar early in the morning, he said.

At one stage, when the criminals opened fire targeting the law enforcers, they also fired back to retaliate, triggering a gunfight that left Kashem injured with bullet.

Later, the injured was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Two policemen were also injured in the gunfight.

Meanwhile, the OC said that a team of Kotwali Model police arrested three suspected muggers including Sirajul in connection with stabbing of school teacher Mobarak Morshed early Friday while he was returning home from Tarek Memorial Auditorium.

Later, the team conducted a drive in Sankipara area around 4am along with Sirajul to arrest another mugger.

When, the team reached ithe area, a gang of muggers opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gun fight. Sirajul was dead on the spot after the gunfight.The body was sent to a hospital for autopsy.
