HC summons Bogura AL leader over grabbing crematory
Dhaka: The High Court on Sunday summoned a Bogura unit Awami League leader over grabbing a century-old crematorium of the Hindu community in Shibganj upazila.
The court asked Shibganj upazila AL president Azizul Haque to appear before it on May 20 to explain his position.
An HC bench of Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore and Justice AKM Shahidul Huq came up with the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
Advocate Manzill Murshid who argued in favour of the writ said no legal action was taken even the crematory was grabbed at the nose of the local administration.
HRPB filed the petition with the High Court attaching reports published on newspapers on June 26, 2016.
After primary hearing of the writ, the court on July 31, 2016 issued a rule over the issue.
It had also ordered stopping the construction work occupying the crematory and asked the local administration to probe the incident.
As the local administration found the allegation to be true, the High Court came up with the latest order.
