President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday underscored the need for playing responsible role by family, society and the state to materialise all rights of the children.

President said this while addressing the closing ceremony of the national children competition 2018 organised by Bangladesh Shishu Academy, reports the UNB.

‘The senior persons will have to step forward for the proper development of the children. It is very much urgent to play the responsible role from all including family, society and the state to materialize the all rights of the children,’ Abdul Hamid emphasised.

Hamid said the children must be grown up with the spirit of patriotism and human values apart from ensuring their basic rights. They (guardians) should encourage their children in creative activities.

Abdul Hamid said ‘Children today start their lives with extreme competition in their early stage. The guardians are more engaged in this bad competition than the children. Even they (guardians) prioritise the score of the examination ignoring their (children) capacity which is a barrier to the natural growth.’

Hamid added that it is important to become a good person rather attaining the top position in any competition. ‘The process to teach the children should be entertaining, not through giving pressure on them. This lesson lasts long for the children,’ he also added.

Terming the autistic and physically challenged children as an integral part of the society, Hamid said autistic and physically challenged children should be brought in the mainstream of the society, rather considering as a burden.  Everyone should step forward to transform them into ‘wealth’.

President said ‘it’s not possible to ensure the overall development of children by only formulating laws and charters. We must change our mindset in this regard. Our children will get chance to be the world class citizens if their proper growth is ensured at the proper time.’

Highlighting the government’s initiatives taken for the development of children, President said ‘Children are getting more scope to flourish their latent talent. So we want to see our children the real successors of our dream who will work for spreading the Bangalee culture, hold the ideal of the liberation war and pay the due respect to the Bangla language and the country.’

Calling for creating children friendly environment to guardians, philanthropists and public and private organisations, which work on children, He also said that the guardian should make the children more aware of the social and religious values alongside the academic education as they can refrain themselves from superstition and bigotry.

President Abdul Hamid handed over gold medals to hundreds of winners in 28 categories.

Chairman of the Academy Selina Hossain, state minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, and its secretary Nasima Begum, director of the Academy Anjir Liton, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, president of standing committee on Women and Children Affairs Ministry Rebeka Momin and the secretaries concerned to the President`s Office were present on the occasion.
