Petroleum Bill placed in Parliament
Dhaka: A bill titled ‘Petroleum Bill, 2016’ was placed in Parliament on Wednesday, which will replace the ‘The Petroleum (Amendment) Ordinance, 1986’.
The bill aims to regulate import, transport, storage, production, refining, blending or reclaiming by recycling [distribution and marketing] of petroleum and other inflammable substances.
The original law was enacted in 1934 and amended in 1986 through an Ordinance during the military regime.
The ordinances and laws promulgated and enacted during the two martial law regimes became null and void as the court declared the fifth and seventh amendments to the Constitution illegal.
Later, the Cabinet directed the authorities concerned to bring those laws deemed necessary (in Bangla) back in the books making those the time-befitting ones.
State Minister for State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid placed the Bill and it was sent to the respective Parliamentary Standing Committee for further scrutiny.
