Man burns wife alive at Dhaka Geneva Camp

Dhaka: A housewife was burnt to death allegedly by her husband at the Geneva Camp of Mohammadpur in the city on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Rani, 20, wife of Saheb Ali, according to a UNB report.
Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) said Rani divorced her first husband one year back and then married Saheb Ali. She has a five-year old son from her first husband, who used to stay with her in the Geneva Camp.
Rani had an altercation with Saheb on Wednesday afternoon over a family matter. At one stage, Saheb poured kerosene on her body and set her on fire inside a room, said the DMCH sources quoting victim’s brother Jony.
Rani was burnt alive inside the room as her husband locked the room from outside, Jony alleged.
Being informed, police went to the spot and recovered the body around 3:30pm.
Contacted, sub-inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station Aminur Rahman said they detained Saheb for interrogation.
The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
