Khulna: Claiming that the victory of boat was ensured through ‘election engineering’ in the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) polls, BNP mayoral candidate Nazurl Islam Manju on Wednesday demanded re-election in 105 polling centres.

While addressing a press briefing at the local BNP office at KD Road in the city, he also demanded taking steps after investigation into the serious irregularities in 45 polling stations. ‘Democracy has been jeopardised and the next general election become uncertain through this,’ he said, reports the UNB.

Manju also claimed that the residents of Khulna have rejected the results of the election of ‘vote rigging’.

Describing the KCC election as an unprecedented model of vote rigging, he said the government and the Election Commission (EC) were defeated morally through arranging such a ‘farcical election’.

BNP leader also said it was proved through the polls that no fair election can be held in the country under the Sheikh Hasina government and the Election Commission subservient to it.

Awami League candidate Talukder Abdul Khalek was elected KCC mayor bagging 174,851 votes while his nearest rival Nazurl Islam Manju polled 109,251 in the polls held on Tuesday amid allegations of capturing some polling stations, vote fraud and violence in some areas.
