Dhaka: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday hoped that their party chairperson Khaleda Zia will be freed from jail before Eid-ul-Fitr

‘We believe our madam (Khaleda) will surely come out of jail before the Eid,’ he said.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office, reports the UNB.

Earlier in the day, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the High Court order that had granted bail to convicted BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Her lawyers, however, said the BNP chief is not going to be freed from jail now as she has been shown arrested in some other cases.

Fakhrul said Khaleda has been shown arrested in six other cases. ‘We're in discussions with lawyers, and we'll move to the High Court to get bail in those cases. We hope she would get bail in all the cases by 7-10 working days.’

He also hoped that their chairperson will be acquitted by the High Court in Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case as the allegation of breaching trust brought against her has no basis.

About the just held Khulna city polls, Fakhrul said the government deceived the people of Khulna by depriving them of their voting rights.

He said they will now come up with a new plan over Gazipur polls.

Asked whether they will join the Gazipur polls after their bad experience in Khulna, the BNP leader said, they will decide it after discussions with party leaders.

‘From our experience, we can say no election is possible to hold in a credible manner under then current government and the Election Commission,’ he added.

He said the ruling party resorted to a new strategy in the Khulna polls as it was apparently good and peaceful election, but deeply flawed inside.

Fakhrul claimed their party candidate Nazrul Islam Manju would have won with a big margin had the election been fair.
