HC summons Japan-Bangladesh hospital authorities, DG health services

Dhaka: The High Court on Thursday summoned the authorities of Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital (JBFH) and director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGSH) over an allegation of treating a dead baby at the intensive care unit of the said hospital and realizing money from the parents.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice M Moazzam Husain and Justice Md Badruzzaman asked them to appear before the court on February 12.
High Court passed the order as the Supreme Court lawyer Idrisur Rahman drew attention of the court to a newspaper report in this regard.
According to the newspaper reports, the hospital at Dhanmandi in Dhaka told the parents of one-and-a-half-year-old Sumaiya Saba that they formed a medical board to treat the baby in the morning of 10 February, whereas the poor baby died on the previous day.
Concealing the news of her death, the hospital authorities kept her body at ICU for 24 hours, and told her parents that they have formed a five-member medical board to treat pneumonia affected Saba.
