Two people were killed in separate lightning strikes in Khulna and Sirajganj districts on Tuesday.

In Khulna, a young man was killed and his friend injured as a thunderbolt struck them at Jugerati village in Rupsa upazila in the afternoon, reports the UNB.

The deceased was identified as Faisal Hossain, 22, son of Mintu Sheikh of the village.

Locals said Faisal along with his friend went to take a bath in a nearby river around 1:20 pm when a thunderbolt bore down on them, leaving the duo critically injured.

They were taken to Khulna Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared Faisal dead, said Dr Mohammad Akbar.

In Sirajganj, farmer Kholilur Rahman, 60, was killed as a thunderbolt hit him while harvesting paddy in a field of Brahmakpalia village in Ullahpara upazila around 12:45pm, said local union parishad chairman Jahurul Hasan Nannu.
