Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday announced the schedule for the Union Council elections in six phases beginning on 22 March.

According to the schedule, the first phase of election will be held in 752 union councils on 22 March while 4,279 Union Parishads were now ready for the polls.  

Election Commissioner M Shah Newaz announced the schedule at the EC secretariat saying 710 union councils would witness the elections in second phase on 31 March.

He said third phase elections would be held in 711 union councils on 23 April; fourth phase in 728 on 7 May; fifth phase in 714 on 28 May and the rests would be held in the sixth phase on 4 June.
