Six more suspected drug peddlers were killed in reported gunfights with police in Feni, Brahmanbaria, Cumilla and Narayanganj districts early Thursday as the anti-narcotics crackdown continues across the country.

Of them, two were killed in Feni and Cumilla each and one each was killed in Narayanganj and Brahmanbaria.

Meanwhile, the bodies of four other alleged drug traders were fund in Magura, Satkhira and Cox’s Bazar districts, reports the UNB.

A total of 59 people were killed in ‘gunfights’ across the country since May 12.

In Feni, Samiran Shamim, son of Mohammad Mostafa of Maij village, and Majnu Miah alias Manir, son of Fatik Miah of Mantala village in Phulgazi upazila, were killed in a ‘gun battle’ between their cohorts and police at Jammura in the upazila around 3:30 am, said Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Phulgazi Police Station.

The gunfight took place when police conducted an anti-narcotics drive in the area based on secret information, said the OC.

One gun, 700 Yaba tablets and 200 bottles of Phensidyl syrup were also recovered from the spot, he added.

In Brahmanbaria, a ‘gunfight’ with police left Amir Kha, an alleged drug, dead at Bangaj Steel Bridge in Akhaura upazila early in the morning.

Amir Kha, son of late Suruj Kha of Chandpur village in the upazila, was wanted in 12 cases, said Mosharraf Hossain Tarafdar, officer-in-charge of Akhaura Police Station.

Police also recovered one pipe gun, one cartridge, one sharp weapon, 10 kgs of hemp and eight bottles of Phensidyl syrup, said the OC.

In Cumilla, two suspected drug pushers were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ between their cohorts and police in Chouddagram and Sadar Dakkhin upazilas.

Babul alias Lamba Babul, 35, son of Hafez Ahmed of Boidderkhil village in Chouddagram, was killed in the ‘gunfight’ with police at Amanganda Salakanda on Dhaka-Chattogram highway around 1 am, said Abul Foysal, officer-in-charge of Chouddagram Police Station.

He was wanted in five cases, the OC added.

In another drive, Rajib, 26, son of Shah Alam of Changini village in Sadar Dakkhin, was killed in a ‘gun battle’ with police at Goalmatha around 2:15 am, said Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Dakkhin Police Station.

He was also wanted in 13 cases, said the OC.

In Narayanganj, Selim alias Fency Selim, 40, son of Abul Kashem of Sanarpar area, was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Nimai Kashani in Siddhirganj early in this morning.

Sharfuddin, additional superintendent of Narayanganj Police, said police arrested Selim along with 5,000 Yaba pills from Sanarpar on Wednesday.

Later, the law enforcers along with Sharfuddin conducted a drive to arrest his associates in Nimai Kashani area where the gunfight took place, police said.

In Magura, acting on information that two drug-peddling gangs were exchanging gunfights between them over establishing supremacy, a team of police went to Parnanduali Housing Project in the district town around 1:30 am and recovered the bullet-hit bodies of two alleged drug peddlers, said additional superintendent of Magura Police Tariqul Islam.

The deceased were identified as Mizanur Rahman Kalu, 42 of Bhayana village and Ayub Ali, 55 of Niznanduali village in Sadar upazila.

In Satkhira, the bullet-hit body of a suspected drug peddler was found at Hizla Chandipur in Kaliganj upazila.

Being informed by locals, police recovered the body of Abdul Aziz of Parandah village in Sadar upazila, from the area in the morning and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Hasan Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station.

One shutter gun, five bullets and 48 bottles of Phensidyl syrup were recovered from the spot.

Aziz was wanted in several cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act, said the OC.

Police said Aziz might have been killed following enmity between two groups of drug traders.

In Cox’s Bazar, police recovered the bullet-hit body of alleged drug pusher Md Hasan, 35, son of late Khuilal Miah of Kolatali Adarshagram, from a hill area on the south of the district town around 3:30am.

Farid Uddin Khandaker, officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, said on information about a gunfight between two groups of Yaba traders, a team of police conducted a drive in the area.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the Yaba traders fled the scene.

Later, police recovered the body and a pistol with two bullets.

Meanwhile, victim’s elder brother Shahar Mulluk claimed that some plain-clothes men picked Hasan up from their house after sehri on Tuesday.
