BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Friday said their party is working out a strategy to ‘outsmart’ the ruling party by foiling its plot to rig votes in Gazipur polls.

‘The MPs are being given a scope for joining the Gazipur polls campaign by amending the election code of conduct. As they (AL) know they won’t be able to get elected with people’s votes, they’re plotting to rig votes in another way,’ he said, reports the UNB.

Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader said, ‘We would like to say, we’ll have a counter strategy to resist the government blueprint for vote rigging in Gazipur assessing our experience in Khulna.’

Doctors Association of Bangladesh (Dab) arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club, marking BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s 37th death anniversary.

Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, said their party will be there in the election race in Gazipur as part of the party’s movement thwarting the government’s all plots.

About the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, he said the government is killing indiscriminately those who carry drugs instead of taking action against ruling party men involved in drug peddling.

The BNP leader said extrajudicial killing cannot be a way to eliminate drug abuse. ‘Those carry drugs are being killed to hide the ruling party godfathers running the narcotics business,’ the BNP leader added.

About the Prime Minister’s India tour, he said people will consider the visit as justified one if Sheikh Hasina can sign the Teesta water-sharing deal.

Otherwise, Mosharraf said, people will raise doubt whether the tour is to make a blueprint to hold another ‘lopsided’ election like the 2014 one.

He said their party together with people will force the government to quit and hold the next polls under a neutral government after releasing Khaleda Zia from jail.
