Power supply restored to Khaleda’s office
Dhaka: About 19 hours into the cutting off power connection to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office, authorities concerned resumed the power supply on Saturday night, confirmed BNP’s press wing official Shamshuddin Didar.
Six staff of Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (Desco) appeared in front of Khaleda’s office with a ladder at about 10:00pm and restored the power supply.
The Desco staff said they came to fix the power line after being informed that there was a problem in it.
Earlier around 2:45am, a Desco lineman disconnected the electricity line to Khaleda’s office.
The lineman told reporters that he, at the advice of Gulshan police, had cut the power line off to the office, where Khaleda has been staying for 15 days of virtual confinement since January 3.
Later in the day, the authorities concerned also cut off satellite cable and internet connections to the office.
Earlier on Friday, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan warned that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia would be confined and water and electricity supply to her office as well as food supply for her would be stopped if she does not withdraw the ongoing blockade before the SSC examinations scheduled to begin on Monday.
