Imran H Sarkar held from Shahbagh
Dhaka: Members of Rapid Action Battillion(Rab) on Wednesday afternoon detained Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar from Shahbagh area of the city.
Sarker was picked up while he was attending a programme in Shahbagh Square at about 4:30pm on Wednesday, Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan, Rab's legal and media wing director told NTV Online.
Witnesses said when Imran and his supporters were gathering in front of the National Museum for holding a rally around 4:30pm protesting the killings in the ongoing anti-drug drive, police picked him up, dragged him into a police van and dispersed his supporters, reports the UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station Abul Hossain said Imran H Sarker and his followers had no permission to hold any programme there.
A Dhaka court on 26 October 2017 issued an arrest warrant against activist Imran H Sarker in a defamation case filed for derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Sarker, however, got bail in the case in November last year.
